WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

A spray head will spray water over the whole area to be watered the entire time it is watering.  The spray pattern does not move back and forth like a rotor. Spray heads disperse a lot of water in a short time, so in general they are good for small to medium area watering and for even surfaces. Spray heads are less expensive, but they require more pipes and trenching and valves.

Rotors are sprinklers that shoot a jet of water, and the stream moves back and forth across the area to be watered.  They disperse less water but more evenly, and are good for sloping landscapes and larger areas, allowing water to soak in at rates that the soil can absorb.  Rotors use less pipe and trenches, but they themselves are more expensive.

The cost per square foot is comparable with each type of sprinkler head. Gary Fialkosky Lawn Sprinklers, LLC utilizes both types, and we usually use a mix of each kind with our typical irrigation installation.

Location, Location, Location

The roots for Gary Filakosky Lawn Sprinklers, LLC were firmly planted in Newton, Massachusetts over 20 years ago. However, as we have grown so too have our needs.  Our office and garage storage facility moved to Needham, Massachusetts in late 2017.  With its three exits on I-95/Route 128, and with its easy access to Route 135, Needham allows us to easily access all the towns we service. We have received a warm welcome from this town of almost 30,000 residents.  Thank you Needham!

Spring is on its Way!

Believe it or not, we are rapidly approaching the irrigation season! Next week our office will begin contacting current customers to schedule Spring Start Ups. As a general rule, once the threat of frost has passed we can begin the Start Ups. Last year we began in early April and we hope to do the same this year.

Spring Start Up Checklist:

  • activate your system and pressurize the main line
  • operate each zone to be sure it functions properly
  • Check for damage (leaks, broken heads, etc)
  • Repair any damage
  • Adjust sprinkler heads to confirm coverage
  • Check valves

We equip our trucks with most parts necessary for basic repairs, and repairs are made when possible during the Start Up process. Occasionally we may need to schedule a follow up appointment to accommodate extensive repairs or those requiring additional parts. If you are aware of an existing issue with your irrigation system, please LET US KNOW before our visit so we can be sure to have the proper equipment and time allocated for our visit.
